Housing policy in England

Housing issues are very high on the Government’s agenda. Housing policy is particularly relevant while we go through a period of restrictions on borrowing, falling house prices, slowing down in building and rising repossessions. But the need to have decent, affordable housing was a fundamental of government policy even before the current crisis.

There are five main aspects of current Government Policy in England:

• Housing for all – ensuring enough housing
• Affordable – ensuring enough housing that people can afford
• Quality – ensuring housing is up to modern standards
• Sustainable – making housing energy efficient
• Good places – making housing contribute to creation of good places
